The mission of The Particle Technology and Crystallization
Center (PTCC) is to foster a unique mechanism
for addressing important problems in particle technology
and crystallization in the pharmaceutical industry. The PTCC collaborative
team consists of Illinois Institute of Technology, concentrating
on particle technology and crystallization research and
includes characterization facilities at the Advanced Photon
Source (APS) at Argonne National Laboratory; the Department
of Industrial and Physical Pharmacy at Purdue University,
whose work targets polymorphism, materials science, spectroscopic
analysis, and manufacturing; and Massachusetts Institute
of Technology, which centers on the study of process analysis
and benchmarking. The center is a not-for-profit organization
administrated through IIT and its aim is to catalyze interaction
between industrial and academic scientists and facilitate
the application of novel technologies in pharmaceutical
manufacturing processes.

In step with our times, PTCC aims to become a leading educational
and research entity in Particle Technology and Crystallization of not only
small molecules but macromolecules, of chemical and biological type. Cognizant
of the numerous challenges the pharmaceutical industry faces in terms of regulatory
compliance, PTCC will continue to pursue projects responding
to FDA initiatives on Quality and Manufacturing Practices, QBD, 21st cGMP,
e.g., development of sensors and analytical techniques for manufacturing processes.
